Today i had a babysitting job from eight in the morning to three in the afternoon. It was a good job, but there was one thing I noticed. The kids were bored out of their minds! It was a pair of twins, a boy and a girl, 7 1/2 years old (They made sure I knew they were 7 1/2 NOT 7). The reason why they were so bored is that their parents were insane! They restricted them from everything. They had limited time on their iPads and they weren't allowed to watch tv or play video games. They also weren't allowed to have any junk food. So when the little girl begged me to let her have a piece of candy and play on her mom's iPad, I had to crush her and say no.
It frustrates me how some parents buy things like wii's, iPads, iPods and restrict how much time they can use them. I understand that if you believe electronics are bad for children, it is ok, but at least don't spend your money on expensive items you will never use. Also there was nothing at the house for the twins to play with, they literally just sat there, I felt so bad for them. The only thing their mother suggested I do with them is let them play out side in the snow. The only problem was, it was -20 degrees out side so when I did finally force them to go out side they just sat there bored. I was confused on what I was supposed to do, and frustrated with the way the parents were. They need to realize they can't protect their kids from everything.
