Democracy...Much Debated

This week has been busy for me, I am in the middle of my semester finals and I have been working on my project for my civics class. Civics, for those who do not know, is a class teaching how our government was created and how it works. While I was working on the essay part of my project, I realized something very important about our country.

Obviously our country is much divided in our ideas about government. Whether it be Republican, Democrat, or any other party, everyone seems to have their own opinion. Now, many people believe that this makes our country weaker and divides us. I have come to the realization that, in fact, it is the exact opposite. I believe that these debates and disputes, have shaped us as a democracy. Everyone has an opinion and everyone is allowed to share it. Isn't that the definition of democracy? Or am I just mixed up about my ideals.

My essay, was about taxes. Being a person who does not do well with numbers, it was quite a challenge. However, while writing my essay I realized a lesson, that I believe is important about our country, and, frankly, I am very proud of it . Civics is a class that didn't come easy to me, but I think I came out of it learning something very valuable. What do you think? Am I right about my ideas of government? Or do you think I am completely wrong? I am only a freshman in High School after all.
